Scott Dixon survived a horrendous crash at the Indianapolis 500, which led to the rear of his car being ripped off.
The incident occurred after 50 laps with Jay Howard, with the pair miraculously unscathed by the destruction. A red flag was flown after the crash left a hole in the infield safety fencing.
Howard was passed on the inside by Ryan Hunter-Reay, forcing him into the wall and into the path of Dixon. Dixon’s car was sent into the air and over Helio Castroneves before landing safely to leave his car in pieces.
The crash adds to a horrendous week for Dixon, with the New Zealander robbed at gunpoint in a fast-food restaurant having just taken pole position.
He has now been cleared by doctors though with the medical centre releasing him less than an hour after the incident occurred.
